Details

By leading a team of specialists and supporting curriculum teams to deliver Quality-First teaching methods, the Head of SEND & ALS will be instrumental in ensuring effective learning support to all our students and apprentices.

Applicants must have an excellent working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and be able to work strategically with internal and external stakeholders and agencies.

You’ll also help implement the strategic direction of the department by leading the area’s business planning process, ensuring we are compliant with legislation, and managing the day-to-day SEND provision across the college

Day-to-day you will be responsible for:

  • Implementing the cross-college Strategy for Additional Support (ALS) and the High Needs provision working towards outstanding provision support

  • Liaising with the Local Authority to secure appropriate funding for High Needs students aged 16-24

  • Ensure we meet legal duties and best practice in terms of SEND, student support and the assessment for Exam Access arrangements

  • Developing, planning and managing support delivery across all relevant college locations. Covering 14-16, adult and apprenticeship provisions

  • Providing leadership, inspiration and constructive challenge for all direct reports and the wider department

  • Deputising for the Vice Principal when required; representing the college at events as required
