Salary:  £24,450 - £27,072 per annum

Contract: Permanent

Location: Sheffield

Hours: 37 hours per week x 52 weeks per year

About the Role

The Sheffield College have an exciting opportunity to work in the Vocational Science Department as a Senior Science Technician, this role will contribute to the efficient running of the service. You will support the science provision at our City and Hillsborough Campuses both within the vocational area as well servicing for A level sciences and supporting the Access to HE programmes.

You will be responsible for providing equipment and resources for demonstration, class practical work, assessments and examinations whilst also supporting the wider functioning of the department. You will work closely with all staff across the department, ensuring that they deliver the necessary support to facilitate high-quality teaching and learning in science.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Preparation of science materials and equipment across all three sciences, though specialising in the biological side would be desirable.
  • Routine maintenance of science laboratories and preparation rooms, their equipment, and services.
  • Maintaining the stocks of science chemicals and equipment.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Prior experience of work as a Science Technician in an education environment is essential however other relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience relating to biology (Microbiology - making plates, maintaining cultures, use of microscopes, Gel electrophoresis and Environmental science) would be desirable  
  • Ideally, candidates should possess a good working knowledge of COSHH & CLEAPSS in order to maintain compliance with Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Excellent IT skills.
