Position: Technical Trainer (Motor Vehicle) 

Salary: £27,266 - £32,105 per annum

Contract: Permanent 

Location: Sheffield 

Hours: Full time 37 hours per week x 52 weeks per year

The Sheffield College is a further and higher education institution dedicated to providing academic, vocational, and professional qualifications to approximately 13,000 young people and adults annually. About the Role 

Applicants will have gained training and experience through prior industry experience working as a maintenance and repair technician or related activity. We are looking for someone who a relevant vocational qualification at least Level 2 or equivalent.  Post holders will be carrying out routine tasks to an agreed standard, often of a technical or operational nature under regular but not necessarily direct supervision. By fulfilling these roles, support staff ensure that the workshop operates efficiently, safely, and effectively, providing a high-quality educational experience, while encouraging good practices and fostering a positive learning environment. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide technical assistance within workshop practical sessions, including helping set up demonstrations. 

  • Providing guidance and support to students, helping them to develop practical skills and knowledge. 

  • Whilst work is planned, the post holder will have the responsibility for ensuring that all targets and deadlines are met. 

  • Collaborating with lecturers and other staff to continuously improve the workshop's operations and educational setting. 

  • Implementing and enforcing safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries. 

  • Assisting in the development of instructional materials and resources. 

  • Required to carry out routine record keeping, filing and/or cataloguing. 

 

Skills & Knowledge

  • Prior work experience normally in a technical or operational role within an automotive environment, prefrebably qualified to L3 Maintenace and Repair, with sufficient experience in setting up and diagnosing faults using diagnostic equipment. 

  • written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with instructors, students, and other staff members. 

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly and efficiently. 

  • Working with students requires patience, especially when they are learning new skills.
