Hours: 29 hours per week x 35 weeks per year

About the Role

At The Sheffield College we are passionate about inclusivity and are proud to offer quality support to hearing impaired students across all curriculum areas and campuses. We are looking for a reliable, flexible, experienced and skilled Communication Support Worker who has worked in educational settings, ideally Further Education, across a wide range of subject areas.

You will be joining an enthusiastic established team who work with hearing impaired students, providing translation in British Sign Language, Sign Supported English, as well as taking written notes, primarily in the classroom or online and in workshops but sometimes for off-site activities.

The hours are divided equally over the year (35 weeks) and there may be opportunities to work additional hours on a sessional basis (depending on support demand).

Key Responsibilities

  • Use a range of communication skills appropriate to the student, for example, sign to voice/voice to sign translation during “live explanations”
  • Take written notes suitable for hearing impaired learners
  • Record session activity on college systems
  • Participate in departmental and cross college events
  • Support all students to achieve their goals

Skills & Knowledge

  • GCSE English Language and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or other Level 2 equivalent
  • British Sign Language Level 3 or above
  • Qualification or experience in Notetaking
  • Experience of working in FE across a range of subject areas
